I’m sure we have all our fan favorites when it comes to celebs and music artists. But do we really know what that life entails when it comes to being an “A-list” celebrity, or the pressures that come with it?

The glamour and money tend to blind all celebrities during their brief moment in the spotlight, but then reality sets in and they  realize they’re still human and have to face their problems eventually.

Macklemore seems to be coming face to face with that problem lately, apparently relapsing into drug addiction.

In the August/September issue of Complex magazine, Macklemore opens with his recent struggle with drugs, blaming fame and a need to “escape.”

“I don’t feel like I’m grown up. I feel like I’m a kid,” he told the magazine. “I feel like I’m the 15-year-old kid down the street, trying to escape, get out of class, smoke weed in the street, and kick it. And that’s a version of myself that I don’t feel that far removed from.”

What’s more revealing is an fight he had with his fiancee Tricia Davis a year ago at a SXSW, where she discovered some hidden pills that prompted him to sober up.

Macklemore goes on in the interview to explain how he “bargained” with himself to get clean.

“You know, like, Monday, I’m a stop…. OK. Tuesday, I’m a stop…. OK, f—k it, I might as well go on to the weekend.  Sunday, I’m done. But after this bag of weed…,” he explained, calling his actions “sneaky” and “deceitful.”

The final realization he had to quit came when he found out that he and his fiancee were expecting their first baby!

“I’ve been trying to grow up this year,” he continued. “Since I heard that Tricia was pregnant, I was like, ‘I need to grow up right now.’”

We can only imagine what those struggles might feel like when it comes to addiction, but give credit to Macklemore for speaking openly about it and tackling the problem head on.
